Diet pills VS Regular Exercise

Updated on July 20, 2011

THE BEGINNING

Who would not want to be fit? There are so many reasons why we tend to be so sensitive on the way we look. There are some who wants to get the attention of a handsome guy they just met in school. Others are concerned of their health given that excess weight will never do anything good to them. A few are even just doing so because they love appreciating their body. They want to face in the mirror every morning and see a wonderful being. This greatly boost their confidence and thus making them productive individuals in the society. But then again, what is the best method to lose weight? It has been a couple of years now when diet pills were discovered. However, exercise has been known to aid in weight loss for centuries. Will this mean exercise has the upper hand on this battle? Lets see how this epic clash will turn out. Lets get ready to rumble!

Regular Exercise

Don't you know that exercise has been around as early as 400BC? A physician named Hippocrates mentioned exercise as one of the ways on how one can greatly boost our health. He mentioned that towards good health is exercise and proper nourishment. This was the start of the continuous search of men to find the most effective routine that will not only keep us fit but save us from other side effects that rigorous exercise might bring.

PROS:

  • Keeps your heart beating

Several studies have been made and they all proved that regular exercise can help you increase your life span. In most cases, individuals who are concerned about constant exercise lived for 60 years and above. This is because exercise helps reduce the chances of heart attack while giving you an effective method to keep your body supple.

  • It's free

Exercise is definitely free. You are not paying for it if you tend to do it on a gym. The right to use the facilities and the trainer's services are the ones that benefits from your payment. You can even exercise at home with the use of some homemade alternatives as equipments. You can pick up a stool and lift it in accordance to your routine to attain the same effect compared to weightlifting in gyms. However, the best place to move around and do your routines is outside where you can breath fresh air. This can be anywhere if you are living in the uptowns but try to do it in a park if you are situated in a city to avoid air pollution.

  • Control stress and anxiety

I can personally attest to this fact. We are all subjected to stress every now and then.Family, work and relationship problems can lead us to attain a truckload of stress. If this is accumulated in time, it can severely decrease the immune system of an individual. This is very alarming that is why you should find some ways to shake those stress off. Exercise is one of the best ways to do so. Try to punch an annoying punching bag when you face a great ordeal and you will then realize that you felt better afterwards. This is one of the magic of exercise. The best part of all, even an average individual like you can do it.

CONS:

Exercise is completely safe if it is properly done. That is why there is nothing to worry about. However, too much of it can over-stress your joints and muscles which can lead to arthritis later on when you get old. Furthermore, doing it the wrong way can lead you to some injuries. Keep in mind that stretching is vital. Have you ever wondered why even the professional football and basketball players stretch before a game? This only shows how relevant stretching is and that it should be a part of your routine. Do not overdo yourself. It is better to start it slow to avoid your body from being shocked with an abrupt increase in physical activities.

Diet pills

Sylvester Graham was the one who first created a diet pill that made the industry famous as early as 19th century. From that day on, thousands of brands have been competing to be the best with regards to weight reduction. The first concerns regarding this product was effectiveness because most of the early pills that went out in the market can't satisfy the expectations of their customers. However, technology gave birth to effective diet pills until the primary concern was mostly concentrated on the safety of these medical products. There were several reports of diet pills causing danger to ones health in the past years and FDA is on the move to stop this from happening.

PROS

  • Effortless and Pain-free
This is the best thing about diet pills. You do not need to do some strenuous activities just to get rid of some excess fat. All you need to do is consult your doctor with regards to the right method to use it. Popping a pill in your mouth and drinking a glass of water will only cost you a minute or two, and you can proceed to your daily routine right after.
  • You don't need a Plan
There is nothing left for you to do than get enough supply of your chosen diet pill and take it considering the prescription of your doctor. However,be certain about the safety of your chosen pill. Examine it for FDA approval to keep you away from fake and untested products.
  • Saves you time
Diet pills are perfect for executives and other professionals that do not have enough time to spend for exercise. These individuals are too busy with their professions and even though they want to do some exercise, they just cant. Moreover, diet pills are also good for those who are too obese and any kind of exercise just won't cause any good effects at all. After losing some pounds, they then proceed to exercise to get rid of the remaining excess weight.

CONS

  • Addictive
Keep in mind that some diet pills out there can make you feel good after intake and cause withdrawal symptoms if you chose not to. This is one of the great dangers associated to diet pills. Moreover, instead of eating right and living it healthy, individuals turn on to diet pills and take more and more and without even noticing it, they are addicted.
  • Minor side effects
The most common minor side effects of diet pills are diarrhea, dry mouth, headache and restlessness.  These are just minor side effects which means they tend to be gone after a few days and your body can cope to these reactions as your medication proceeds. However, these side effects can still be very annoying and certainly impair some of your daily activities.
  • Major side effects
The most alarming side effects of diet pills are renal failure and heart attack. Don't ever take these for granted because your life can be in great danger.  Although you can stay away from these major side effects by taking the medicine as prescribed, there is no assurance that it will not react negatively to your body given that all of us are unique in one way or another. A diet pill might work for a friend but will only cause danger for you.

AND THE WINNER IS...

No doubt, exercise is far better than diet pills. Although diet pills promise wonderful effects in less time and effort, exercise dodged it with safety and effectiveness. There is no point achieving your desired body mass if it means having some life threatening conditions. Exercise completely outrun diet pills in terms of safety. Furthermore, they are even with regards to effectiveness. Time might be on the diet pills side but the big gap that safety made was too big which made diet pills left to eat the dust. Exercise won for now. But one can't consider this as a decided battle because technology is still on the pursuit for safer and effective diet pills that might beat exercise and bring home the champion's trophy.
